Clever Trick

Small Talk:

Recent news reports indicated that 2 professors allegedly accepted bribes ranging from NT$100,000 to NT$400,000 to help 6 students obtain master's and doctoral titles. Consequently, the court sentenced the professors to 7 years and 5.2 years in prison respectively for corruption, stripping them of their civil rights for 2 years. The 6 bribing students were sentenced to 6 to 7 months in prison, with probations lasting 2 to 3 years.

Reports reveal that since 2019, the 2 professors subsequently ghostwrote the theses and ultimately shielded the students during oral defenses to ensure they passed and graduated smoothly.

Confucius said, "Riches and honors are what men desire. If they cannot be obtained in the proper way, they should not be held." These 2 people occupied prestigious positions within the academic halls of a national university, enjoying abundant academic resources. Yet, instead of dedicating their minds to the righteous path for the betterment of society, they were blinded by greed. By employing such underhanded methods, they engineered a turnkey assembly line for fabricating theses and degrees. This not only trampled upon academic professionalism and their own dignity but also stands as a monumental disgrace to Taiwan's academic community and the nation as a whole.

Albert Einstein once noted that an expert without humanistic education resembles a well-trained dog. However, in my opinion, comparing this type of person to a dog would likely be an insult to the dog!
